Yes. An abscess is an infection that can spread to the jaw and beyond. Swelling, a bad taste, fever, or throbbing pain are signs to be seen today. If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, or rapidly spreading swelling, go to the ER or call 911.

Call us immediately. Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root. If it's dirty, rinse gently with water without scrubbing. Try to place it back in the socket; if you can't, keep it in milk or in your cheek and come in right away. The best chance of saving it is within the first hour.
